Back in September 2012 I asked you about certain details of custom RPM spec (the question got a significant number of views :-)
That question is at http://answers.bitrock.com/questions/1848/custom-rpm-spec
One of the items we asked was about BitRock’s support for dependencies when generating DEB/RPM, to which you answered that a custom spec would be required if to have RPM/DEB checking dependencies.
I would like to see your input/knowledge on the following, please:
As the Technical Support gurus, do you have a feel for how those Linux-native packages without dependency checks are received by Linux user community?
Is it acceptable enough to deliver RPM/DEB for a custom application that does not check dependencies?
Or is it uncommon enough to ‘anger’ Linux users?
The reason for this follow up question is because we would like to get a better feel for what Linux community expects/accepts/forgives/’does not forgive’ when installing a native package, before we dive into a custom spec development for our installer.
